For this Cultural Tuesday I decided to go for my favourite easy version of my favourite food: sushi! I have once tried to make sushi rolls myself, but it was so much work for not a lot of food, and it’s also really difficult to get it right. And then I found this, the sushi bowl! It is super easy and tastes exactly like the sushi we all know. You basically just throw all the ingredients for sushi in a bowl, you add some soy sauce et voila! You can decide for yourself which ingredients you want to add, which makes it a very varieted meal.
– 125g sushi rice
– rice vinegar
– soy sauce
– 1 avocado
– 1/4 cucumber
– a few carrots
– smoked salmon
– sushi nori- some salt
– some sugar
Step 1: Cook the sushi rice. Put the rice in a pot with 175ml cold water and wait until it boils. When the water is boiling, put the lid on the pot and let the rice cook for 10 minutes. After ten minutes, turn the stove off and leave the rice in the pot with the lid on it for 15 more minutes.
Step 2: Cut all the veggies you chose to put into the sushi bowl while the rice cools off. For me it was cucumber, avocado and carrots. The salmon I bought was already cut.
Step 3: Make a mix of 3 tablespoons of rice vinegar, 1 small teaspoon of sugar and 1 small teaspoon of salt. Add this mix to the rice once it is cooled a little.
Step 4: Put the rice in the bowl, add your veggies and salmon and tear up one piece of sushi nori to add to the mix.
Add some soy sauce to your bowl, mix it all up and enjoy a nice and easy sushi meal! It’s sooooo good!
